More precise action – help for horses that lean heavily on the bit
The Eggbutt Gag bit features drilled holes at the top and bottom edges, through which a separate round gag strap is threaded. This strap incorporates the cheekpiece instead of a standard cheekpiece, creating a stronger effect than attaching it to a normal cheekpiece. The bit acts on the corners of the mouth and the poll, helping the horse to carry itself more upright and evenly, without leaning into the bit. It can be a good braking mechanism for horses that don't respond to a pelham and kimblehook but resist the frame, yet need something more than a regular snaffle.
🔸 Usually used with two pairs of reins:
– one attached directly to the bit ring
– the other for controlling the gag strap
- the bit can also be used with a single rein attached to the gag strap, but we recommend two reins for better control of the effect.
Recommended for horses: that lean heavily on the bit, or go in too low a frame
