Fager Walter is suitable for horses that are stiff or firm in hand, uneven in contact, or need more flexibility than a straight bit offers. The bit molds around the horse's mouth, creating even pressure and a soft, flexible feel in the hand. It often also works for pressure-sensitive horses as an alternative bit, or for jumping as a small, speed-boosting jumping bit instead of a normal three-piece bit.

The Baby Fulmer cheekpiece combines the benefits of a loose ring and a fixed ring: it stays close to the horse's cheek, aids in steering, and keeps the bit stable. The loose rings further away from the corners of the mouth transfer pressure deeper and encourage the horse to seek contact and avoid stiffening.
